Phone Details

There is no mobile coverage at Camp Duckadang. There is a Telstra phone available for use outside Rubie House. You will need a prepaid voucher (e.g. PhoneAway) to use this phone. Most newsagents sell these and registration will have a limited number of $10.00 vouchers available on-site at registration.

Messages can be left during the camp on Camp Duckadang (07) 5424 8122 or e-mail: info@duckadang.org.au. Be aware it may take a few hours to get any message through.

Power

Safe power point stations are set up at regular intervals around the site for powering telescopes. Please bring your own adapter and cable if you require more than 1 point.

There are no 15 Amp plugs available for caravans. Please bring your own adapter if required.

20-30m of extension cords are recommended for use to power campsites and telescopes.

General Information

Please watch the Notice Board for any updates about registration and camp events.

Once registration is closed I will not accept requests for bunks. Any bunks left available will be allocated as the need arises. We haven't run out at any point before but it comes close. There are spare mattresses available in an emergency.

Registrants will receive their bed number upon arrival. In the mean time you will receive an information pack which will let you know which house you are in. Names will be on the beds as in previous years.

One last note Please realize it gets COLD up at Duckadang. We have had ice form inside tents before. Observing doesn't involve a lot of physical activity so the body need more help keeping warm. Clothing suited for Zero degrees or below is highly recommended. A $3 hot water bottle is a great investment for wearing around inside a jacket (long one is best). Jeans are not warm, layering track pants works well, even if you don't look so good. Most people are unrecognizable when dressed :-) Don't forget your bed needs to be warm too.

No white light is tolerated at this camp. Not in tents or even the toilet. Please see the committee for free red cellophane if you have forgotten to bring some. Please be aware that some LED torched are very bright, (particularly LED head lamps). As a courtesy to others, keep your torch pointed downwards when possible to avoid dazzling others.

Please read the updated rules for the camp.

Smoking

The Duckadang camp site is classed as a Youth Camp and the surrounding area a Wilderness Sanctuary so we are required to have only 2 designated smoking areas. These areas will be clearly marked and have a cigarette butt receptacle. They are near the pool and at the front gate. No smoking in any other area will be tolerated.

Arrival at the camp

Daily registration will be between 10:30 -11:30 pm and 3-4 pm in the Committee House (Rubie House). Please seek out a committee member if you can't be there at those times, i.e. come up for one night and arrive late. An orange sign will on the committee house doors if someone is available to register you. Look out for the red lanyards of the committee and volunteers.

Camp Gates will be closed from 5:30pm each night. A night parking area at the gate and in the lower field is available.
See Site Map for details.
